Automotive Interior

Interior lighting covers everything the occupant sees inside the cabin: instrument clusters, backlit switches and buttons, illuminated HMI panels, ambient and mood lighting, door and footwell lighting, and infotainment displays. Most of it runs at low light levels and passes through etched or painted surfaces, so the color and brightness homogeneity of the light matters.

Interior lighting shapes the perceived quality of the whole cabin. Ambient lighting that drifts in color from one trim piece to the next, or a button that glows brighter than the ones beside it, is immediately obvious to the driver at night. A small inconsistency that is invisible on an individual part can stand out once the whole cabin is lit, which is exactly when the customer is judging it.

Feasa products are sensitive enough to measure these low-light backlit assemblies, and can test them at multiple points throughout the production process — from LEDs on PCBs through assembled panels to laboratory measurements. Every LED on a panel is read in a single measurement cycle, so a full backlit console or cluster can be checked in seconds. Testing across a run helps keep color and brightness consistent from one vehicle to the next. Backlit switches and etched panels are typically handled by the Low Light LED Analyser, RGB and ambient lighting by the RGB LED Analyser, and infotainment screens by the Display Analyser.

Find defects before customers do

A fault found at build costs far less than a return, recall or field repair

Protect brand reputation

A lighting defect that reaches the field reflects directly on the brand

Product consistency

Output should look the same from one unit to the next, and across a product range

Compliance

Specified and regulated products benefit from a documented result behind every unit

Objective, repeatable results

A measured value removes the subjectivity of a visual inspection

Keep pace with production

Fast, multichannel testing fits the line without becoming a bottleneck

Color & intensity testing

Confirms LEDs match one another and stay consistent from one unit to the next

CCT & chromaticity measurement

Reports color temperature and CIE coordinates for every LED

Fast test times

Every LED read in a single cycle, in-line or off-line

Low-light measurement

Reliable readings on dim, backlit and etched surfaces

RGB & multi-color testing

Common interior lighting test scenarios

A closer look at how Feasa systems are applied to specific interior lighting measurement challenges.

Testing backlit buttons for consistent illumination

Each legend or icon is captured for luminance and (x,y).

Values are output for part-to-part comparison or against a reference. A wide dynamic range measures very dim and very bright light without the signal noise other systems hit at low levels — so one system can cover both day and night modes.

Testing cluster and infotainment displays

The Display Analyser is a multichannel tester that outputs a luminance value at each measured point.

Light reaches each channel through a fibre-optic head, so heads can be placed freely over the product. Users typically position several around the panel for spot checks.

Characterizing ambient RGB lighting

RGB LEDs are difficult to test across their many light permutations, so Feasa developed the dedicated RGB Analyser.

It handles PWM-driven LEDs and captures sequences for animated effects. Where LED calibration is required, the Feasa Spectrometer is a go-to for its accuracy.
